Biographical Information

Paul Deering has been a professor of education at the University of Hawai'i since 1993. He directs the Master of Education Degree in Curriculum Studies with a Middle Level Emphasis Program on O‘ahu and Maui, as well as teaching at all levels from undergraduate to doctoral. Paul has published and presented on middle grades education, collaborative learning, literacy, multicultural education, pre-school through adult education, teacher empowerment, school culture and research methods. Paul is a West Region Trustee of the National Middle School Association. He is also a former president and board member of the Hawai‘i Association of Middle Schools, and is active in the American Educational Research Association, and its Middle Level Educational Research group. Paul has worked with educators throughout the U.S., as well as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and India. Paul received his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, and his B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from Cleveland State University. He began his career by teaching social studies and outdoor education at Harding Middle School in Lakewood, Ohio, for nine years. Most importantly, Paul is still an adolescent!
